Just This Moment
In a crisis, the mind screams that everything is unbearable and forever. It isn't. Intense states peak and pass. Your only job right now is the next breath, the next minute. That's enough.
Steps to Get Through Right Now
1. Slow the Breath
Breathe out longer than you breathe in. In for 4, out for 6 or more. The long exhale tells your body the emergency can ease.
2. Ground in Your Senses (5-4-3-2-1)
Name 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste. This pulls you out of the spiral and into now.
3. Feel Your Feet
Press your feet into the floor. Feel the ground holding you. You are here. You are supported.
4. Remind Yourself: This Will Pass
Say it gently: "This is intense, and it will pass. I have survived hard moments before." Because you have.
5. Reach One Safe Person
If you can, call or message someone safe. You don't have to be alone in this. Asking for help is strength.
6. Make It Through to the Next Small Thing
A glass of water. A few minutes. The next breath. Tiny steps carry you through until the wave softens.
A Steadying Truth
| The crisis says… | The truth is… |
|---|---|
| "This is unbearable forever." | "This will pass. I only need this moment." |
| "I'm completely alone." | "Support exists. I can reach for it." |

What do I do during an emotional crisis right now?

How do I calm a panic attack?
Remind yourself it will pass and isn't dangerous. Breathe out longer than you breathe in, place your feet firmly on the floor, and name what you see around you. Panic always peaks and fades.
